Born and raised in Memphis, TN, Derrick Rush brings a rich life story and captivating presence to the stage. After serving in the Navy and traveling the world, Derrick retired in 2009 and found a new calling: stand-up comedy. He relocated to Denver, CO, where he quickly made a name for himself in the vibrant comedy scene.

Derrick solidified his reputation by placing third (out of 168 comics) in the renowned New Faces Competition at the world famous Comedy Works. His talent has also earned him spots at the High Plains Comedy Festival and opportunities to work alongside some of the biggest names in comedy, including Dave Chappelle, Joey Diaz, Dana Gould, Darrell Hammond, Tony Rock, Karlous Miller, DC Young Fly, and Mike Epps.

Hailed by Westword as “a comedian everyone should look out for,” Derrick’s storytelling style, delivered with a laid-back cadence, draws audiences in and keeps them engaged from start to finish. He has released two acclaimed comedy albums—one recorded during the pandemic and the other shortly after—showcasing his ability to find humor in life’s unique moments.
